Please mark your calendars for Alumni festivities this July as seen in Dates to Remember! We have heard from a few folks that were hesitant to attend past AIumni Days due to having to travel in and find a place to stay. If you are local to Columbus, please consider opening up your guest room or couch to fellow Alumni that will be traveling in. If you are interested in hosting for the weekend or need a place to stay, please email [email protected] and provide numbers of guests and dates available. We want to see all your smiling, singing faces.
One of the best parts of being together is getting to sing together! We all have our favorite music from our years in the choir and I hope you are singing yours as you read this. Every Alumni Day we connect with each other by singing some traditional AOSFYC songs as well as a few favorites from past years. In recent years we have added a Homecoming Alumni Choir concert comprised entirely of Alumni to sing before the current AOSFYC final concert at Voinovich Lawn. This 30 minute concert has allowed us to sing a few more pieces than previous years allowed. As we begin to look ahead to warmer months and plan our 2024 Alumni Day, we want to ensure we are singing the music that matters to us. This is where you come in: we need you to tell us your favorite music from your time in the choir. By clicking the survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XPF5XDW you can input your favorite song (please only submit 1 entry each). Once we compile our favorite songs, we’ll send out a final survey to vote on the top picks to be sung on Alumni Day! *Song choices will be subject to music availability.

Interested in joining the alumni board? Know someone who is? A call for nominations:
Are you an alumni who enjoys volunteering and making a direct impact? The alumni board is seeking nominations for new members. Interested parties must be an alumni and be a paid member of the alumni association at the time of elections, which take place on alumni day. The goal of the board is to support the choir and alumni through fundraising, service, and newsletters. The board meets 4-5 times throughout the year to discuss and plan for upcoming events and newsletters. If you or someone you know is eligible and interested in joining, please contact us at [email protected] Beginning at the 2024 alumni day, we will be increasing the size of the board by 3 members. We will add one position each year, concluding in 2026. This means that each alumni day, we will be voting on 4 board members rather than 3. The alumni board is beginning to plan for the purchase of a new set of risers for the choir. As you can imagine, this is not a cheap endeavor. The board intends to begin fundraising efforts immediately, and thus has established a fundraising committee. Please let us know if you have any fundraising ideas, or if you are interested in joining the committee, or any others, please contact [email protected] If you signed up to help with another committee at the 2023 alumni day, the board will begin contacting you soon to set up times to meet. For those of you who follow us on Facebook, you have most likely noticed that we have two operating Facebook Groups. In order to streamline our communications with you and get all alumni in one place, we will be discontinuing one of these groups after Alumni Day 2024. The Group that will be discontinued is called All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir Alumni. In order to keep receiving our Facebook communications, make sure you are a member of the group called AOSFYC Alumni. If you’re already a member of AOSFYC Alumni, you don’t have to do a thing! If not, click the link above and join today!
Opportunities are available to sponsor the American flag and AOSFYC Float during the Daily Parade! These are perfect for individual, family, and group sponsorship! What a great way to connect with fellow alumni and sponsor together! And don’t forget that charitable donations such as these are tax right-offs. Contact [email protected] for more information and date availability! Daily flag sponsorship - $70. Yearly Float sponsorship - $250
For those of you who have been to the fair post 2020, I am sure you have noticed the choir is smaller than in years past. We are rebuilding (following the canceling of the Fair in 2020 and limited numbers of 2021) and the amazing AOSFYC staff has asked for our help with recruiting!
The easiest way to help is to share the link to the online application (https://www.aosfyc.org/apply.html) with high school students you may know, friends or colleagues with high school aged students, or friends that are high school teachers. The application is open though March 31st. Additionally, please let us know if you are connected to any high school choir directors as we would love to connect them with the AOSFYC Staff for more information. You can also send us a brief testimonial about your time in the choir that we can share with the AOSFYC Staff to use with high schools recruiting across the state. You can send any choir director contact information or testimonials to [email protected]. In order to continue supporting the choir to the best of our ability, Alumni Association dues will slightly increase beginning with the 2024-2025 membership year. Beginning on July 1, 2024, membership dues will be $20. You can pay your dues online at https://www.aosfyc.org/alumnimembership.html, mailed to the alumni board treasurer (see mailing info by clicking the link), or in person at Alumni Day.
Thank you for your continued support of the Alumni Association and the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir! Dates to Remember:
Dear fellow alumni,
Let me start out by telling you a little about myself. My name is Amy (Brotherton) Wagner and I was in the choir from 2000 to 2003. I was also a member of the Cardinal Chorale (2001-2003) and a counselor in training in 2005. In college I studied music business at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, and later got my Masters in Business with a concentration in marketing from Wright State University. I started my marketing career at a music publishing company but then moved on to several other industries as well. And recently I started my own business as a freelance marketer where I specialize in helping small businesses, social media marketing, and content marketing. I'm also a wife and mom to three beautiful children who I'm happy to say are sharing in my love of music! This is my third year on the alumni board and first year as president, and I am so happy to be a part of this wonderful family! Like many of you, my time as a member of the AOSFYC are some of the happiest years of my life. I learned so much about music and all as teamwork, dealing with change, hard work, communication, friendship, and so many other imperative skills. In short, the Youth Choir shaped who I became as an adult, and I am so thankful for the experience. This is why being a member of the Alumni Association is something I love so much. I am honored to do what I can in order to ensure the experience of the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir continues to bring joy, acceptance, and music to many generations to come. This year we have some great plans in the works to continue supporting the AOSFYC and our fellow alumni. Some highlights include the creation of a fundraising committee, increasing the size of the alumni board, future alumni events, and more! Stay tuned for more details and news as it becomes available. Thank you for your continued support and alumni fellowship. We look forward to seeing you at Alumni Day and additional events we are planning for the future. Sincerely. Amy (Brotherton) Wagner |
